In the Kangaroos Land Part One: Sydney

Australia, so distant, so wild.....some years ago I had the lucky opportunity to visit this amazing Country, so far the place with the highest quality life I've been to. Sydney really surprised me, half european (english actually), half american (really NY in a way) and half asian (Tokyo is not so far if you think about it). In Sydney there's a mix of many different people, more than in other big cities I've seen; businessmen, surfers, runners, japanese tourists..they all walk side by side in the city's streets! The Asian community is very big, I loved this aspect (if you are frequent readers of this blog you'll probably know how much I love Japan, so this shouldn't surprise you!;)) this asian contribute has created many asian-aussie couples with unbelievable beautiful kids!! Aussies seem to be all very relaxed and friendly, always ready to have a chat, to help you, to smile and to do sport...it seems like every single inhabitant of the city does jogging! If you go to Sydney you have to visit the Taronga Zoo, the place is amazing and even if I'm not a fan of zoos, this particular one is different. Animals live in big and very natural areas, it doesn't seem they're in prison like in other zoos....of course here you can find Kangaroos and Koalas (these one aren't so soft as you can think, their coat is very bristly!!That was really disappointing to me!By the way they're cute!)

A friday evening of Metropolism in Rome

Have you heard the quote "The best camera is the one you have with yourself"? Yesterday evening this camera was for me my blackberry...it's officially started my favourite season in Rome...SPRING!! If there is something that can make this city even more beautiful than it normally is, this thing is with no doubt spring...walking around the city centre in this period is really a sweet pleasure, the air is warm, there's a nice flower smell, there are many tourists enjoying their vacation, you can eat or drink outiside in a lovely atmosphere....my friday evening yesterday started this way, with a nice walk in Piazza di Spagna.....

Madrid is a beautiful city, full of history and with many many many things to see and to do. Personally, I enjoyed a lot its museums, especially the Reina Sofia, one of the best modern/contemporary art museums I've seen; here you can find, among the others, the famous Guernica by Pablo Picasso, it will leave you breathless!! Also the Prado museum is absolutely a must, especially for Goya's works,
After a morning spent in cultural activities, I suggest you to have lunch in one of the several Museo del Jamon  in the city to taste a great sandwich with spanish ham! After lunch, in a sunny day the ideal thing to do is to relax on a little boat at the Parque del Retiro (Madrid's biggest park); then, if you are still hungry, you could have an afternoon break with the famous chocolate y churros!
So far I spoke about food but not about drinks....the most renown spanish drink is, as you all probably know, Sangria! Where can you find the best Sangria in Madrid???  When I was there some spanish told me this place was Las Cuevas del Sesamo...well, I'm not such a sangria expert, anyway I found it good! The place is particular, really spanish and with quotes by famous  writers written on the wall, the negative side? It was too smooky, but at that time (2007) smoke was still allowed inside public places...I don't know if the law is changed now....I wish it is!;)

A little break from japanese stories....this week one of my best friend since ever is graduating (good luck and all my wishes darling!!) so as an homage, I'm speaking about her second home, place of happy erasmus memories for her, Alcalà de Henares and Madrid, Spain! Alcalà de Henares is a small and peaceful city in Madrid's neighborhood, it's the home of the renown spanish writer Cervantes. It has an ancient and beautiful University with an international enviroment, it's small enough to be vivable but no so small to be boring, on the contrary there are many places to have fun, in short it's the ideal city for erasmus parties!:)  The historical centre is very nice, essentially medieval but a roman influence is well discerned. There are also a Moorish area and a Jewish area. Visit Cervantes'home is a must as well as take a picture seated between Don Quixote and Sancho Panza's statues! :)
(In the next few days the second part about Madrid, stay tuned!)

Lock Up Restaurant, Shibuya, Tokyo

In Tokyo the socalled theme restaurants are very popular; last year a japanese friend of mine took me to one of these places, The Lock Up restaurant in Shibuya. What an experience!!!!! The waitress who welcomed us was dressed like a policeman, she even handcuffed us to bring us to our table!! The restaurant was like a real prison, with all the tables inside cells! The place was very dark with strange waiters and suddenly. during the dinner a scary music started, we started hearing people screaming (imagine my face, I didn't  know what to think and I was staring at my friend with a stupid glance like "what's going on. where did you bring me too??!!" and while I was trying to figure out what was really happening, some monsters appeared and came to our cell very close to my face...omg it was so scaring but very very funny!!!! I put also a video of our screams to give you better the idea of how it was......:D (click on read more)

The Lock Up restaurant a Shibuya.

One of the millions of curious things you can find in Japan is absolutely the fake food; outside of each restaurant you can find all the dishes you can eat there in a 3d version :D I swear they are very realistic!!! Don't you think they're extremely funny???!!?:D

Sakura

It's almost Sakura time, that period of the year so much loved by Japanese, it begins between March and April, and represents the cherry blossom. It's an important event in Japan, troughout the Country, from the north to the south all people use to have picnics under these beautiful cherry trees to admire the blossom. This is for sure on of the best periods to visit Japan. I was there last year in February, it wasn't Sakura yet but I could admire the plume blossoms....these pictures were taken in Kyoto, at the Nijo Caste's gardens (the ancient residence of the first Shogun from the Edo period) and at the Kiyomizu Temple and in Hakone neighborhood...

Nuraghi, megalithic edifices found only in Sardinia. I've always found them fascinating. They were built between 1900-730 B.C. their original meaning is still unknown. Some theories believe they were military buildings, others consider them religious edifices. Nowadays there are still 7000 nuraghes located in different parts of the Island. These pictures were taken in 2009, May in Sassari's neighbourhood....
