Dubailand!!

Dubai mi ha sempre incuriosita. Quest'anno riesco finalmente a visitarla con una delle mie più care amiche, non curandoci dei vari pregiudizi della gente intorno a noi ("cosa c'è da vedere???E' una città finta e fa caldissimo"). Prenotiamo per la prima settimana di Settembre, sperando che la temperatura sia un pò più sopportabile. In aereoporto cominciano le prime buone impressioni...tutto molto pulito, organizzato, si incontrano i primi emiri e le prime emire, ammalianti e misteriosi nei loro abiti tradizionali. Appena uscite dall'aereoporto un'ondata di calore impressionante ci travolge, ma non ci lasciamo scoraggiare. Prendiamo un Dubai taxi (sono rossi e gialli e i tassisti indossano una divisa a colore e sono più convenienti dei taxi non ufficiali che raddoppiano sempre i prezzi, anche se comunque è possibile contrattarli prima di partire) e arriviamo nel nostro hotel nella zona delle spiagge, Jumeirah.

I've always been really curious about Dubai. This year I finally visited it with one of my best friends, without caring what people around us were saying ("There's nothing to see, it's a fake city and it is so hot..bla bla bla"). We book for the first week of September hoping in a lower temperature. The good impressions already start at the airport, everything is clean and well organized, we meet the first emirs, very charming in their traditional dresses. Outside the airport an incredible hot wind sweep up us, but it doesn't bring us down. We take a Dubai taxi ( they are red and yellow and the taxi drivers wear a uniform in the same colors, they are more convenient then the private ones where the prices are much more higher even if it's always possible to contract them before) and we arrive to our hotel in the beaches area, Jumeirah.

Trascorriamo il nostro primo pomeriggio a Dubai presso il complesso Madinat Jumeirah, una sorta di suq al coperto con aria condizionata, numerosi negozietti di souvenir, ristoranti, cafè, bar (più animato e divertente soprattutto la sera!), c'è anche un fiume dove si può fare una piccola crociera con gli abra (delle tipiche imbarcazioni locali) tuttavia i veri abra che gli abitanti di Dubai usano per spostarsi da un lato all'altro del fiume nella vecchia Dubai sono molto meglio e anche meno costosi. Nei dintorni ci sono anche delle spiagge private dei vari complessi alberghieri e si intravede la famosa Vela (il Burj Al Arab, hotel a 7 stelle simbolo di Dubai).

We spend our first afternoon in Dubai at the Madinat Jumeirah complex, a kind of an indoor suq with air conditioned, many little souvenirs shops, restaurants, cafes, bars (more funny and animated in the night!), there's also a creek where it is possible to have cruise on the abra (classical Dubai boats), by the way the real abra are the ones the Dubai citizens use to cross the creek from a side to the other on the old town, these ones are better and also cheaper. In the neighborhoods there are many private beaches property of the various hotels and you can also see the famous Sail (the Burj Al Arab, the 7 stars hotel symbol of Dubai).

Sailing Ionian Greek Islands

Sono appena rientrata dalla prima parte delle mie vacanze estive (meglio tardi che mai!)...una settimana in barca a vela alle Isole Ioniche Greche. La mia prima esperienza in barca e sicuramente non l'ultima, decisamente un altro modo di vivere il mare! Non è un tipo di vacanza per chi ama poltrire sulla sdraio sotto l'ombrellone e ama le comodità, ma è la vacanza adatta se si vuole evitare la folla, vivere a stretto contatto col mare, col sole e col vento e provare un pò di adrenalina (che non manca in caso di burrasca). Nei prossimi giorni pubblicherò un post più dettagliato sulla vita in barca, su come comportarsi e cosa portare in valigia in una vacanza di questo tipo. Oggi condivido con voi alcune foto per mostrarvi il meraviglioso e cristallino mar Ionio greco e le verdissime isole di Lefkada, Itaca, Cefalonia, meno famose delle sorelle Cicladi e per questo sicuramente meno mondane e forse un pò più autentiche....
Fa parte di questo arcipelago anche l'isola privata di Skorpios, proprietà della famiglia Onassis. L'attracco e lo sbarco in quest'isola sono ovviamente vietati, ma ci si può navigare intorno restando ad una certa distanza dalla costa...

I've just came back from the first part of my summer vacation (better late then never!)...a week spent sailing Ionian Greek Islands. This was my first experience on a boat and definetely it won't be the last, a completely different way of living the sea! This is not the ideal vacation for lazy people who love sleeping under the beach umbrella and look for confort, but it is the perfect kind of vacation for people who hate crowded places, who love living the real sea, the sun, the wind and who are not scared to try a little bit of adrenalin (which you won't miss in case of squall). In the next few days I'll publish a more detailed post about life on a boat, how to behave on a boat, what to bring in your suitcase in such a trip. Today I share with you some pictures to show you the wonderful Ionian Greek sea and the supergreen islands of Lefkada, Kefallonia, Ithaki, less popular than the Cyclades and for this reason less "socialite" and maybe a little more real....
Among these islands there is also the private island of Skorpios, property of the Onassis family. Of course the landing in this island is forbidden, but you can sail around it keeping a certain distance from the coast....

Sardinian sea

The Count-down is started...2 weeks to my holidays..... I desperately need the sea!! Soon interesting posts about my summer trips! In the meantime here there are some pictures shot in Sardinia a couple of years ago...the best sea ever!!!

San Francisco mix

When I think about San Francisco it always comes to my mind  this lovely october afternoon spent at Pier 39, eating ice cream, watching the sea lions and listening to a romantic street singer, Paul Hayward (whose CD I'm listening right now :)) S.F. it has always been described as openminded and intellectual city, where you can breathe freedom everywhere. My impression matched with the common description and plus, I was very lucky to enjoy the city under the sun and without its famous fog :)

Quando penso a San Francisco, mi viene sempre in mente un piacevole pomeriggio d'Ottobre trascorso al Pier 39, mangiando gelato, osservando i leoni marini e ascoltando un romantico cantante di strada, Paul Hayward (il cui CD sto ascoltando proprio ora :)) S.F. è sempre stata descritta come una città openminded, con una forte impronta intellettuale, un posto dove si respira libertà ovunque.  La mia impressione è stata assolutamente in accordo con la descrizione comune e per di più, sono stata così fortunata da poter godere della città sotto il sole e senza la sua famosa nebbia :)

Tokaj

 

Tokaj, the name of a famous wine, mostly sweet and perfect to accompany desserts, producted in the homonymous region in Hungary. When I was living in this lovely Country, Tokaj is one of the places I loved most. The vineyard is peaceful and beautiful, you can take a tour in the wine cellar and tasting the wines with an expert wine steward who explaines you all the characteristics of the wine you're drinking....just an advice, eat the cheese it's offered with the wine if you don't want to get drunk with no intention!!:)

Tokaj è il nome di un famoso vino, per lo più dolce e perfetto per accompagnare i dessert, prodotto nell'omonima regione in Ungheria. Quando vivevo in questo incantevole Paese, Tokaj fu uno dei posti che amai di più. La vigna è bellissima e silenziosa, si può fare un tour della cantina e provare i vari tipi di vino con un enologo esperto che vi spiega tutte le caratteristiche del vino che state bevendo...solo un consiglio, mangiate il formaggio che viene offerto con il vino se non volete ubriacarvi senza averne l'intenzione!:)
