Kuala Lumpur

La Malesia è stata una delle tappe delle mie vacanze la scorsa estate. Motivi famigliari mi hanno portata in un Paese così esotico e lontano che onestamente non avevo mai considerato stilando la mia lista dei viaggi da fare. La città base del mio soggiorno malesiano è stata ovviamente la capitale, Kuala Lumpur. Il cielo grigio, il clima umido e afoso, lo smog e il traffico più terribile che abbia mai visto (Roma e Bangkok in confronto sono delle dilettanti!) mi hanno inizialmente impressionato negativamente. Ma Kuala Lumpur è una città che si scopre a poco a poco e la Malesia alla fine si è rivelata uno dei Paesi più affascinanti che abbia mai visitato.

Malaysia was one of my summer trips last vacation season. Family reasons took me to this, so far and exotic Country, that honestly, I've never had considered while writing my trips wishlist.
My base was obviously the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The grey sky, the hot and humid climate, the smog and the terrible traffic (comparing to Kuala Lumpur, Rome and Bangkok are two little villages) firstly, impressed me not in a good way. Anyway, Kuala Lumpur is a city that you discover little by little and in the end Malaysia was one of the most charming places I've ever visited.

Una delle zone più interessanti della città è sicuramente Chinatown, da cui si può arrivare in breve al tempo al mercato centrale, dove è possibile ammirare il melting-pot di culture della città nella sua massima espressione...Malesiani, Cinesi, Indiani, Pakistani, musulmani, cattolici, laici...

One of the most interesting areas of the city is absolutely Chinatown, from which it's pretty fast to reach the Central Market, where you can observe the melting-pot of cultures of the city in its best expression...Malaysians, Chinese people, Indians, people from Pakistan, catholics, islamic and laical people...

From the snow to the desert and to the sky

Ultimo post su Dubai. Arrivati alla fine anche di questo viaggio. Gli ultimi due giorni in una delle città più divertenti del globo li abbiamo trascorsi tra la neve e il deserto e panorami mozzafiato. Chi ama la montagna potrà trovare di scarsa attrattiva lo Ski Dubai....io dovevo assolutamente provarlo...passeggiare nella neve con -4 °C mentre fuori ce n'erano 40, e lanciare palle di neve contro gente che mi osservava da delle vetrate, durante una pausa dal proprio shopping, era un'esperienza che non potevo non fare. Per chi non sa sciare no problem, ci sono sempre gli slittini!E se poi volete riscaldarvi, potete sempre bere un cioccolata davanti ad un bel fuoco scoppiettante (artificiale, ovviamente!) presso l'adiacente caffè Saint Moritz!;)

Last Dubai post. Another trip has come to an end. We spent the last 2 days in one of the funniest cities in the world, between the snow and the desert and breathtaking landscapes. Who loves mountains may not appreciate the Ski Dubai...I  absolutely had to try it.....walking trought the snow with -4 °C while outside the temperature was about 40 °C and throwing snowballs against people observing us from the windows, during a break from their shopping, was an experience I couldn't not doing. No problem if you can't ski, there are sleds!If you want to warm up, you can drink a hot chocolate in front of a nice fireplace (artificial, of course!) chez the close cafè Saint Moritz!;)

Like a kid in Dubai

Dubai è come una grande Disneyland, fa tornare tutti un pò bambini. L'Aquaventure del mega resort Atlantis è il posto giusto dove iniziare questo viaggio nel tempo e tornare all'infanzia. Situato nella famosa Palm Jumeirah, l'isola artificiale a forma di palma, l'Atlantis è un complesso alberghiero maestoso, con un parco acquatico tra i più divertenti e spettacolari dove sia mai stata, oltre che tra i meglio organizzati e sicuri. Le attrazioni sono molte...un'esperienza unica è sicuramente Shark attack, lo scivolo che attraversa una piscina piena di squali! :) Se siete stanchi di passare da uno scivolo all'altro, il posto ideale per riposarsi è la spiaggia ubicata su una delle foglie di Palm Jumeirah (l'acqua è caldissima ma fate attenzione alle meduse!!)

Dubai is like a big Disneyland, it brings you back to childhood. Aquaventure is the right place where to start this trip back to your childhood. This amazing waterpark is part of the resort Atlantis, located on Palm Jumeirah, the palm shaped artificial island. The Aquaventure definitely worth a visit...it is extremely fun, beautiful, well organized and safe. There are many kind of slides...a unique experience it is a ride on the Shark attack, this slide crosses a pool full of sharks!:) If you're tired of jumping from a slide to another, there's a wonderful beach located on one of the Palm Jumeirah's leaves (the water is very warm but be careful of jelly fishes!)

 

Un'altra cosa che in genere piace un sacco ai bambini, è salire sui grattacieli. A Dubai c'è il grattacielo che è al momento il più alto del mondo, il Burj Khalifa. Se andate a Dubai non potete non salirci....c'è un panorama mozzafiato! Dal momento che c'è sempre molta fila per i biglietti ( che non è detto di riuscire ad accaparrarsi lì sul momento) conviene acquistarli online un pò prima e andarli a ritirare il giorno previsto per la visita.

Skyscrapers are another favourite entertainment for kids. The tallest building in the world at the moment is in Dubai, it's the Burj Khalifa. If you go to Dubai you can't miss it...there's a breathtaking view of the city! Since there's always a big que for the tickets (and plus it's not certain that you can succeed to buy one at the place) it's better to buy them online.

Dubai non finisce mai di stupire, lo stupore è sicuramente l'emozione che si voleva suscitare quando è stato ideato l'acquario più grande del mondo, all'interno del centro commerciale (chiamarlo così è riduttivo) Dubai Mall...

Dubai never stops to astonish you, astonishment is for sure the emotion you will feel in front of the biggest aquarium in the world inside the shopping mall (shopping mall it is not the correct name, it is much more!) Dubai Mall...

Sea, shopping and dance

Dopo una pienissima giornata trascorsa a fare le turiste, nel nostro secondo giorno a Dubai io e la mia amica Laura decidiamo di rilassarci....prima tappa il mare!!!A Dubai ci sono diverse spiagge, incominciamo dall'Open beach, una spiaggia totalmente a free. C'è ovviamente la possibilità di affittare ombrelloni e lettini, ci sono delle docce e un piccolo chiosco per acquistare cibo e bevande. A parte questo non ci sono altre strutture, e proprio per tale ragione è la spiaggia che ho preferito di più, è molto tranquilla, non c'è affatto confusione...il posto ideale per rilassarsi!E' frequentata per lo più da turisti russi, e infatti è conosciuta anche come Russian beach.

After a full-touristic day,  me and my friend Laura decide to spend our second day in Dubai just relaxing....first stop the beach!!In Dubai there are several beaches, we start with the Open beach, a free beach. There's obviously the chance to rent umbrellas and beds, there are showers and a little kiosk where you can buy food and drinks. Besides this, there are no other facilities, for this reason it's the beach I loved most, it's very quiet, there's no mess at all....the best place to relax!!It is also known as  Russian beach, since there are many russian tourists.

Dopo una veloce doccia in albergo proseguiamo con un giro per negozi al Mall of the Emirates e con cenetta cinese con vista sullo ski Dubai...

After a quick shower at the hotel, we go to the Mall of the Emirates for a little shopping tour and a chinese dinner with a view on the ski Dubai...

 Non siamo ancora abbastanza stanche, una serata dance è quello che vuole per chiudere in bellezza...saliamo su un taxi e ci facciamo portare allo Zinc, un club dall'atmosfera internazionale.

We're not enough tired, we decide to finish the day with a dance night...we jump on a taxi and we let us drive to the Zinc, a very international nightclub.

The Old Dubai

Nel nostro primo intero giorno a Dubai decidiamo di esplorare la città vecchia, il piccolo villaggio di pescatori che ha dato origine a quella che è una delle città più cosmopolite e in fermento del pianeta. Sfidando i 40 °C iniziamo con un giro nello storico quartiere ristrutturato di Bastakiya a Bur Dubai, un labirinto di vicoli e torri del vento (i condizionatori del passato), piccoli musei (tra cui il museo della moneta, con una guida simpaticissima e ospitale), gallerie d'arte e laboratori di artigiani, probabilmente una passeggiata più piacevole di sera, sia per il caldo che per l'atmosfera! Proseguiamo con la visita del Dubai Museum, un museo bellissimo, con allestimenti ben fatti, che aiutano a capire meglio la storia di Dubai e la cultura araba, un museo pensato soprattutto per le famiglie secondo me, i bambini si divertono un sacco (in generale, a dispetto di quanto si possa pensare, Dubai è una meta ideale per un viaggio in famiglia, ci sono tantissime attività per i bambini e in effetti, se si pensa alla centralità del ruolo della famiglia nella cultura araba, questo aspetto di Dubai non dovrebbe sorprendere).

In our full first day in Dubai we decide to explore the old town, the small village of fishermen from which one of the most international and in motion cities in the world was born. Despite the 40 degrees we start visiting the historical area of Bastakiya in Bur Dubai, a labyrinth of small streets, wind towers (the air conditioners of the past), art galleries and craftsmen laboratories, probably a walk more pleasant in the evening, both for the temperature than for the atmosphere! We visit then the Dubai museum, a beautiful museum with great exhibitions which help to better understand the story of Dubai and the arabic culture, a very nice museum for families I think, kids have a lot of fun (generally, despite what you may think, Dubai is a perfect destination for a family trip, there are many activities for kids and actually, if you think about the central position of the family in the arabic culture, this particular aspect of Dubai shouldn't surprise you).

Dubailand!!

Dubai mi ha sempre incuriosita. Quest'anno riesco finalmente a visitarla con una delle mie più care amiche, non curandoci dei vari pregiudizi della gente intorno a noi ("cosa c'è da vedere???E' una città finta e fa caldissimo"). Prenotiamo per la prima settimana di Settembre, sperando che la temperatura sia un pò più sopportabile. In aereoporto cominciano le prime buone impressioni...tutto molto pulito, organizzato, si incontrano i primi emiri e le prime emire, ammalianti e misteriosi nei loro abiti tradizionali. Appena uscite dall'aereoporto un'ondata di calore impressionante ci travolge, ma non ci lasciamo scoraggiare. Prendiamo un Dubai taxi (sono rossi e gialli e i tassisti indossano una divisa a colore e sono più convenienti dei taxi non ufficiali che raddoppiano sempre i prezzi, anche se comunque è possibile contrattarli prima di partire) e arriviamo nel nostro hotel nella zona delle spiagge, Jumeirah.

I've always been really curious about Dubai. This year I finally visited it with one of my best friends, without caring what people around us were saying ("There's nothing to see, it's a fake city and it is so hot..bla bla bla"). We book for the first week of September hoping in a lower temperature. The good impressions already start at the airport, everything is clean and well organized, we meet the first emirs, very charming in their traditional dresses. Outside the airport an incredible hot wind sweep up us, but it doesn't bring us down. We take a Dubai taxi ( they are red and yellow and the taxi drivers wear a uniform in the same colors, they are more convenient then the private ones where the prices are much more higher even if it's always possible to contract them before) and we arrive to our hotel in the beaches area, Jumeirah.

Trascorriamo il nostro primo pomeriggio a Dubai presso il complesso Madinat Jumeirah, una sorta di suq al coperto con aria condizionata, numerosi negozietti di souvenir, ristoranti, cafè, bar (più animato e divertente soprattutto la sera!), c'è anche un fiume dove si può fare una piccola crociera con gli abra (delle tipiche imbarcazioni locali) tuttavia i veri abra che gli abitanti di Dubai usano per spostarsi da un lato all'altro del fiume nella vecchia Dubai sono molto meglio e anche meno costosi. Nei dintorni ci sono anche delle spiagge private dei vari complessi alberghieri e si intravede la famosa Vela (il Burj Al Arab, hotel a 7 stelle simbolo di Dubai).

We spend our first afternoon in Dubai at the Madinat Jumeirah complex, a kind of an indoor suq with air conditioned, many little souvenirs shops, restaurants, cafes, bars (more funny and animated in the night!), there's also a creek where it is possible to have cruise on the abra (classical Dubai boats), by the way the real abra are the ones the Dubai citizens use to cross the creek from a side to the other on the old town, these ones are better and also cheaper. In the neighborhoods there are many private beaches property of the various hotels and you can also see the famous Sail (the Burj Al Arab, the 7 stars hotel symbol of Dubai).
